Benefits of Sensory Play
Sensory activities are mindful activities that are beneficial for all children! It can include any activity that stimulates the 5 senses. Sensory activities help to facilitate exploration and encourage children to use the scientific process while they play, create, investigate and explore.
In addition, sensory play:
- Helps to build nerve connections in the brain which leads to a childs ability to complete more complex learning tasks.
- Supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills and social interaction.
- Aids in developing and enhancing memory.
- Can calm an anxious or frustrated child.
The desire to engage in sensory activities comes naturally for children and we recommend encouraging and supporting this type of play!
In the future, I will have blog posts with other ideas for sensory activities!
